COMMON ORTHO PROBLEMS

Overbite

An overbite is when the upper front teeth overlaps the lower front teeth. It can be severe enough that the lower front teeth hits the roof of the mouth (impinging bite). This is traumatic to both the teeth and gum tissue.

Underbite

An underbite occurs when the lower jaw is more forward than the upper jaw, causing the upper teeth to be behind the lower teeth. This can make eating difficult and painful, as well as cause speech problems.

Openbite

In an open bite, the upper and lower teeth do not overlap, causing a space between the upper and lower teeth. This can cause eating problems, speech impairment, and worsening of tongue thrust habit.

Overjet

In an overjet, the upper front teeth are far from the lower teeth. This can impact aesthetic, eating, speech, and function of your teeth.

Crossbite

A crossbite is when the upper teeth sits inside the bottom. This can lead to misaligned jaw growth, as well as bone and gum problems in the future.
